Curriculum

Information about our school curriculum is available in the documents below. Our monthly Hampsthwaite Update Newsletters also contain further details of all the exciting things going on in school, special curriculum events, focus days/weeks and general work classes are doing.

For information about the specific aspects of English and Mathematics being taught, please refer to the relevant Learning Letter for you child's class / year group. These are given out to all children at the start of every term, and explain the class's "Big Idea" for the context for their learning, as well as practical information about staff, PE, homework etc.

In Nursery and Key Stage 1, children are introduced to phonics using the Jolly Phonics materials. For reading, as well as books and texts by well-known children's authors, we use a range of materials from different reading schemes including Oxford Reading Tree, Heinemann, Ginn and Rigby Star.

Do feel free to contact the school and speak to the Headteacher or one of the class teachers if you would like to know more about our curriculum.

School Meals
School meals are freshly cooked every day in our purpose-built school kitchen. The menu is carefully nutritionally balanced and there is always an option of meat or vegetarian choices. Freshly home-baked bread is also included in the menu.

Children may choose which meals they wish to have, and this is indicated on a menu sheet which is returned to school ready for the start of each new term.

Infant meals are provided free of charge to all children. There is a meal price of £2.10 for junior meals.

Fresh Fruit
All infant and nursery children receive fresh fruit every day as part of the school fruit scheme. This is provided free of charge. Junior children may bring their own fresh fruit snack to have at morning playtime.

Milk Bar
We run a Milk Bar every morning playtime, at which the children are served milk or milkshake to drink. This is very popular and provides a healthy energy boost mid-morning. Children choose in advance which type of milk they would like for the term, and prices start from 15p per serving.
