Hampsthwaite Primary School - MFL Vision
At Hampsthwaite, we feel learning another language gives children the valuable opportunity to develop positive attitudes to and respect for languages and cultures other than their own. We believe that learning another language is a crucial part of the children’s education, which allows children to develop self-belief as well as building their communication skills in a creative and exciting way. In our modern society, children now have the ability to communicate with others whilst fostering curiosity and deepen their understanding of both the world around them and their own language. We want to support and equip them with the skills and confidence to be able to do this.
At Key Stage 1 there is no specific requirement for the teaching of MFL. However, children in KS1 we use songs, rhymes and games in order to expose them to the vocabulary they will need to learn at a later age.
MFL is taught throughout the whole of KS2 and follows the North Yorkshire Scheme of Work
