“Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones.” ― Keith Richards

Extra Curricular Music Lessons at Hampsthwaite

Hampsthwaite Primary School - Music Vision

At Hampsthwaite Church of England Primary School, we believe music brings together intellect, feelings and culture. It enables creativity, teamwork, reflection and enjoyment. It forges links between home, school and the wider world and develops friendships. Music encourages a positive attitude to learning and enables children to shine.

We understand that children will have varied interests and we work hard to help each individual be engaged and inspired.

By engaging children in making, responding to and performing music, opportunities are created to:

* Develop sensitive feelings and respond to music both spiritually and emotionally;

Respect and understand about music of different styles, periods and cultures;

* Discuss and appraise with depth of enquiry;

* Communicate through symbols and formal notation.

Wherever relevant and appropriate, music will be taught alongside the cross-curricular themes. However, some objectives will be taught in a discreet way.

Variety of audiences - peers, whole school, parents, wider community

Live music - performance in assemblies and productions; visiting professional musicians.

Specific Instrumental Tuition - NYCC Music Service Peripatetic; in-school whole class teaching of descant recorder, clarinet and ukulele.

Celebration of lessons taken out of school showing respect and support.

Review and Respond

As a staff, we use ongoing assessment to ensure we meet the needs of all the children. Children are encouraged to review their own work and talk about their progress with a view to challenging themselves along their musical journey; thus giving children reasons to believe in themselves.
